DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Dad and National Yard Games Day at Harriton House! \nSunday\, June 21st is not only Father’s Day but it is also National Yard Games Day and Harriton House is ready with a dual celebration. \nFrom 1908 through 1929\, Harriton was home to the Harriton Guernsey Dairy. The farm provided delicious milk and cream to the neighborhood as an important member of the thriving local farm-to-table dairy industry in southeastern Pennsylvania. \nTickets include “all you can eat” Golden Guernsey Ice Cream produced with milk and cream from the same breed of cows that were part of the Harriton Dairy! Enjoy a friendly game of cornhole\, take a hike down to the Harriton Preserve to explore Mill Creek\, or talk to the animals. Tickets are good for anytime between 1:00 and 4:00 pm so bring Dad after brunch\, golf\, or a leisurely morning drinking coffee with the Sunday paper. \nWe won’t know what flavors are available until closer to the event but chocolate and vanilla are guaranteed. Specialty flavors may include coffee\, rocky road\, strawberry\, and butter pecan. There will also be sugar-free and no sugar added choices available. \nTickets are:  $10 for adults\, $8 for Senior Citizens (65+)\, $7 for children 5 – 12\, $35 for a family of 3 adults and 3 children  Harriton Association members can take advantage of discounted tickets (see Eventbrite for details.) \nAs always\, FATHERS or DESIGNATED FATHER FIGURES EAT FREE! SUMMARY:Thomson at 250 Tours
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nVisit Harriton House in July  for a special tour with the Harriton Association’s Executive Director\, Laura Carpenter. Ms. Carpenter’s tour will focus on object in the museum’s collections which relate to Charles Thomson’s service as first and only Secretary to the Continental Congresses. Harriton House\, home to Charles and Hannah Harrison Thomson after his retirement from public service\, features collections objects relating to their time between 1789 and 1824. There are a handful of objects which Thomson was known to have used during his time as Secretary including the desk that traveled with him as he traveled with the Congress when they assembled outside the city of Philadelphia. The tour is an ideal way to refresh your knowledge of this important founding father or gain an appreciation for Thomson’s contributions to liberty and independence in Colonial Philadelphia. \nAdmission is by donation\, limited to 10 people per tour. \nThe first floor of Harriton House is accessed by 1 step. Tours will last approximately 40 minutes and will involve climbing stairs. Free parking is available in Harriton’s main parking lot with handicapped parking near the Administration Building. There will be a reception and an opportunity to meet Dr. Sneff following her presentation. She will also have her book available for purchase. \nThe program begins at 6:00 p.m. and we ask that you arrive early for general admission seating. The Vaux Family Education Center in the Bank Barn Administration Building is accessible and designated handicapped parking is available directly outside the building. \nTickets are $10 per person with discounted tickets at $8.00 for members of the Harriton Association. \nPublishing for the 250th anniversary of the United States\, When the Declaration of Independence Was News focuses on the nation’s founding document at the moment of its creation in 1776\, before anyone knew what the legacy of the Declaration would be or if the United States would win the war against Great Britain. It explores how the Declaration was communicated to people in the new nation and around the Atlantic world and reveals the stories of the many people involved in the process of declaring independence\, from printers to soldiers to diplomats to translators. \nEmily Sneff\, Ph.D.\, is an early American historian and leading expert on the Declaration of Independence. She is a consulting curator for exhibitions marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration at the Museum of the American Revolution and Historic Trappe.
